EXPERTISE
Giles is a London Hip Surgeon who specialises in young adult hip problems such as sports injuries, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and early onset arthritis. He is an expert in hip arthroscopy, cartilage repair techniques and labral repair. Giles also specialises in less invasive and bone conserving hip replacement, plus revision hip replacement.
TRAINING
Giles qualified from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in 1999. Following basic surgical training at Bart’s and the London, he completed his specialist orthopaedic training on the Imperial (NW Thames) rotation. He then moved on to fellowships at UCLH, Norfolk & Norwich and Cambridge. Following this, he was appointed to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) as consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in disorders of the young adult hip and knee.
RESEARCH & TRAINING
Giles has an active research interest and has published many papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as textbook chapters. A large proportion of these have been presented at either national or international meetings. He also teaches patient management and surgical techniques to trainees and consultant colleagues, both in an informal environment and on teaching courses. He is asked to lecture on a regular basis.
ASSOCIATIONS
Throughout his career, Giles has been elected onto various representative committees and has been invited to be a Medical Assessor for the General Medical Council. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Hip Society (BHS), International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) and British Medical Association (BMA).
BACKGROUND
Giles is married with two children and lives in Surrey. He is a keen sportsman, and although he has now hung up his rugby boots, he still plays tennis for his club and other representative sides. He also enjoys golf and cycling.
